Follow the Leader, Winter 2020

“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness” – John Steinbeck

As we have continually expressed in this quarterly commentary, we love our City. Yes, it can get pretty cold as the middle of January rudely reminded us. There is no doubt that is has been very, very – VERY cold in Edmonton and in our province. All of us Edmontonians found no solace in the media educating us all about the Frigid Arctic air that swept across Western Canada while comparing actual temperature to the “what it really feels like” temperature. Amidst winter’s fierce pounce, we continue to choose to live and truly be a part of our City.

#MyYegWinter

Boasting our pride to the world, we are in fact a winter city. The City of Edmonton has been diligent in helping us reclaim and embrace our winter season. Edmonton stands out from the crowd and  somehow, we bundle up (maybe complain a bit), survive the cold snaps and get to enjoy and experience unique benefits this City has to offer.

Aside from cross-country skiing, skating, snowshoeing, tobogganing and fat-tire biking, we have professional sports teams, an amazing creative arts community (live theatre, opera, symphony, Art Gallery of Alberta), festivals (so many that we are also known as the Festival City), our spectacular river valley and our wide range of educational institutions.

#yegcommunity – Edmontonians Care

Our services to our clients include providing relocation support when needed. “Selling” Edmonton and the Greater Edmonton Area and attracting outstanding leaders is what we take pride in. What do we hear the most from new citizens? We hear about the people. We hear that Edmontonians are warm. We hear that Edmontonians are friendly. And we hear that we are welcoming and always open to lending out a helping hand wherever possible. This is probably why we have an international reputation for outstanding volunteerism for events or causes. Whether it’s the Commonwealth Games, the 2001 Universiade, Grey Cup, the many world-renowned festivals, ITU Grande Finale Triathlon, professional conferences or the largest community league federation in Canada – Edmontonians step up to help each other.

This “care for each other” is evidenced every day by the incredible work done by so many organizations that exist to help people and make our community better – some of them our clients! The list of these organizations seem endless within our community. And we follow suit. The Vogel Group closed our office for half a day recently to volunteer at Bissell Centre. This 110-year old pillar of our community works with communities to empower people to move from poverty to cultural, social and economic prosperity. Working with their dedicated staff and volunteers, we experienced first-hand, the great work they do.

The Vogel Group are involved in our community year round. Whether it’s the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation, coaching kid’s hockey, volunteering for the annual ITU Triathlon or establishing our office as a drop off site for donations for Little Warriors, we believe in being part of this great City in more ways than just executing outstanding recruitment for our clients.
