What began as a profession quickly became a commitment: helping organizations navigate complexity, supporting leaders stepping into meaningful roles, and making the right calls when it matters most.

June marks my 20th anniversary in the recruiting profession, alongside the 8th year since the founding of The Vogel Group.

Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with companies, municipalities, post-secondary institutions, not-for-profits, associations, and regulatory organizations. One thing has remained constant – great leadership changes everything. Not just for organizations, but for the communities they serve.
I’m grateful to the clients who have trusted me with critical hires, and to the candidates who have allowed me to play a small role in their career journeys.
This milestone isn’t a finish line—it’s a foundation.
Leadership expectations are always evolving. The stakes are higher. And thoughtful, strategic recruitment has never been more important.
I’m energized for what’s ahead and look forward to bringing 20 years of perspective, judgment, and experience into the next chapter—supporting organizations in making leadership decisions that matter.

CARNA – Annual President’s Dinner

Since 1989, the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta has recognized outstanding Council members at the annual President’s Dinner. My father, Barry Vogel, initiated this recognition and I have been honoured to carry on this award in his name since 2007.

It was a special event this year as, for the first time ever, two Councillors were recognized for their outstanding contributions. Congratulations Nicole Letourneau and Jennifer Eyford.

It was such a special evening presenting the Vogel award to you both.

2024 State of the City Address – Mayor Sohi

Honoured to have been joined by leading members in our community at the State of the City Address on May 10, 2024.

Addressing business and community leaders, Mayor Sohi highlighted investments and planning that are bearing fruit as Edmonton moves into a period of rapid growth.

Edmonton has made progress in building housing, while simplifying zoning and taking a leadership role in affordable and supportive housing. Mayor Sohi announced the Community Mobilization Task Force, a multidisciplinary group that will help tackle the housing and homelessness emergency in Edmonton.

ICD Edmonton Session – May , 2024

The presenting experts in governance , strategy and recruitment included Ardyce Kouri, Carmen Wyton, Darren Rawson , Janet MacEachern, and David Johnson . It was enlightening to have the different perspectives from private companies, non-profit associations and crown corporations.

A few takeaways as summarized by Sam Jenkins:

Be Outcome-Focused: Emphasize your ability to influence outcomes. Your board career should showcase a lifetime of experiences, highlighting how you can contribute positively to the board.

Be Proactive: Commit to continuous learning and building long-term relationships, not just for immediate gains but for future opportunities.

Be User-Centric: Align your offerings with the needs of the organization you aim to serve. Start with a strong first impression through a strategically crafted resume that reflects this alignment.

An interview with Tracy Hussey

Tracy’s wide variety of leadership roles have provided an excellent background for her recruiting skills. She has successfully jumped into a number of sectors and understands what a leader needs to flourish and achieve their goals.

Tracy has done HR roles and recruitment for several years and knows how to match organizational needs to find the candidate that fits !

She is a Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR), and a member of the Human Resources Professional Association. She has years of involvement in management and leadership guidance and DEI training and assessment.

The Vogel Award – CRNA

For the first time in CRNA history, the Vogel Award has been presented to the same recipient two years in a row!

Ashley Woytuik has been recognized for her positive and enthusiastic approach to resolving issues and for showing consistent dedication to CRNA.

The Vogel Award, initiated by Rick’s father Barry in 1985, recognizes exceptional contributions to the CRNA council.
