Executive Director - Chrysalis

Chrysalis, a non-profit society (the Society) provides programs and services to adults with disabilities to assist people to reach their goals and aspirations while experiencing the highest possible quality of life.
With over 165 employees in Edmonton and Calgary, Chrysalis has built extensive community partnerships with other non-profit organizations and businesses to obtain inclusive meaningful activities for clients through a wide variety of volunteer and/or employment opportunities.
THE ROLE
This position shall serve as the Executive Director (ED) for the Society, foundation and related social enterprises. The right candidate will combine inspirational leadership and sophisticated management abilities to advance the organization’s culture, capability, processes, performance, and innovation solidifying the society as a leader in the field of human services.
The Executive Director’s key responsibilities encompass the Society’s entities which are:
The Society
The ED shall enable the Society to achieve its strategic priorities by ensuring high quality management of all organizational aspects including operations, financial management, board and community relations, workforce and human capital and administrative matters.
The Society’s Foundation
The ED shall be responsible for fund and donor development, grants and program operations, fiscal management, board and community relations, people and culture/labour/human capital and administrative matters.
The Society’s Social Enterprises
The ED shall be responsible for the strategy and operations of the social enterprises (two small scale manufacturing businesses) delivering results on revenue targets, business growth and sustainability.
THE CANDIDATE
The following qualifications, experience, and skills are desired for the ED:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior, strategic leadership position (human services sector preferred).
- Experience working with a volunteer Board.
- A proven track record of successful long-range planning, systems development, and management practices.
- Solid financial acumen relating to developing, presenting, and managing budgets as well as a proven track record of fiscal management and accountability.
- Solid understanding of and experience with interrelated organizations including understanding trusts, non-profit status, and related legal concepts and practical issues.
- Fundraising experience and/or campaign management background.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the ED is to deliver results on the Society’s strategic priorities. More specifically, the ED’s key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Advance the Society’s purpose in supporting individuals with disabilities to be active and contributing members in their community and enhance their social wellbeing.
- Provide strong leadership and team management, fostering a positive work culture while managing and motivating team members to deliver outcomes.
- Build and develop a senior leadership team.
- Prepare annual budgets, management, and prudently financially steward the organization.
- Collaborate with the Board and other relevant stakeholders to develop and execute the Society’s strategic direction and plans.
- Prepare corporate communications to internal and external audiences and act as corporate spokesperson to a wide variety of audiences when necessary.
- Ensure regular contact with funding sources to promote the Society and Foundation aims and objectives with a focus on increasing revenues.
- Coordinate meetings of the Board of Directors of the Society and Foundation, including the development of agendas, minutes, meeting packages, and briefing documents as required.
