THE ROLE

The Director of General Accounting will be a dynamic leader that thrives in a fast paced and agile environment. This Director reports to the Vice President, Finance and oversees a “small but mighty” team that delivers the organization’s general accounting and financial reporting, ensuring accurate and reliable financial information is available for the organization.

The Director of General Accounting will lead the people, process, and technology transformation of implementing a cloud based Financial Management System/ Enterprise Reporting Program, requiring strong leadership and change management skills and experience.

THE CANDIDATE

  • CPA Designation.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, finance or similar.
  • 10+ years of accounting and finance experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience with (preferably in a lead role) systems implementation, transformation, integration, and data migration.
  • Excellent knowledge of IFRS with experience interpreting and applying standards while managing and communicating the impacts to operations.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian tax.
  • Effective communication exhibited across all levels of the organization.
  • Dedication to helping peers and team members succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Accounting Department’s transformation to a cloud-based FMS/ ERP, including nurturing and leading the team engagement while being a champion for change.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures, including evaluating and building effective financial controls and processes.
  • Oversee the planning, organizing and execution of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process.
  • Be the primary liaison with internal audit, external audit, and actuaries.
  • Ensure successful completion of the company’s tax filings.
  • Oversee and collaborate on the preparation of financial statements, including cash flow statements and cash projections.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and retaining competent accounting team members, including coaching, mentoring and performance reviews.
