Board of Directors - Compassion House Foundation

Compassion House Foundation is dedicated to uplifting women who must leave their homes for cancer care. With a vision of creating a sanctuary of healing and hope, they offer safe, comfortable and affordable accommodations tailored to support every stage of the cancer journey. Beyond housing, they deliver essential programs and services post-treatment, helping ease emotional and physical burdens while empowering women to heal with dignity and strength.
THE ROLE
Compassion House is seeking Directors to join its Board of Directors who will contribute to the enhancement of strong and capable leadership governance practices for the organization. Currently, the Board meets quarterly (virtually) plus an in-person strategic planning session (annually), and an in person Annual General Meeting in June. There are two additional committees (Governance, Audit & Finance) to support the work of the Board, and Directors are expected to serve on one committee during their term. Director terms are two years in length with a maximum of three terms on the Board.
The Board is looking for a Director who would have an interest and the experience to serve as Board Chair.
THE CANDIDATE
Compassion House is currently seeking candidates with the following experience/skills to bring to the Board:
- Strong board governance knowledge and experience, preferably in the cause-driven sector.
- Willing to be appointed to the Board Chair role.
Core Competencies:
To ensure that the Board composition represents a diverse range of both general and special skills and personal backgrounds and experiences, Compassion House is seeking Directors who possesses a combination of the following:
- Prior board experience and governance leadership, for a cause-driven organization.
- Ability to analyze situations, issues, best practices, and solutions with an open and detailed perspective.
- Understands the mandate of Compassion House, the responsibilities of a Board member, and is confident providing advice and stewardship to the organization.
- Ability to contribute to the development of the organization’s financial strategy and long-term financial plans.
