The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) is Alberta’s professional regulator for applied science and engineering technology professionals under the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act. ASET protects the public by setting and enforcing rigorous standards for certification, ethics, and professional practice, holding registrants and permit holders accountable across 21 disciplines and more than 120 occupations.

The Director of Finance plays a critical leadership role in managing ASET’s financial operations. Reporting to the COO and as a member of the executive leadership team, this highly strategic role’s portfolio will include (but not limited to) accounting and finance, financial reporting, external audit, banking relationships and investment management.  This position ensures the integrity of financial systems and supports the organization’s long-term operational success through strong governance, planning, and collaboration with external partners.

  • Canadian accounting designation.
  • Significant experience in a leadership finance role.
  • Strong understanding of PSAS.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to communicate and explain financial matters to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to develop relationships across the organization.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Serve on the Finance and Audit Committee.
  • Oversee all aspects of financial administration, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger entries, cash management, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and manage the annual operating budget, including analysis, forecasting, and tracking.
  • Coordinate the annual membership dues process, including invoicing and receipting.
  • Monitor investment performance and fund levels, ensuring appropriate allocation and compliance with policy.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll and manage required submissions, including T4s, ROEs, and CRA remittances.
  • Supervise an accounting specialist.
  • Promote continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Work with the Chief Operating Officer on annual budgeting.
  • Project and committee work cross-departmentally.
