All we can say is wow.

What a year 2020 turned out to be. We started the year off great. And “normal”. Then by mid-March the whole world changed. Definitely a mark in history. We will all have our 2020 stories to tell when we get older. From school-aged kids who had to adapt to online learning, quickly becoming more independent and resilient. To the parents scrambling to learn how to manoeuvre within Google Classroom. To businesses who are still struggling to stay afloat. To those who have been unfortunate to not find any TP, anywhere.

• Everyone now has some sort of home-based technology, ready to go at a moment’s notice.
• Masks are not just a necessity, but for some, an accessory and a way to make a fashion statement.
• Deena Hinshaw is now a household name.

All we can say is wow.

It was a trying year. A year that seemed to be filled with OMG’s just a little more frequently than we are comfortable with. Here are some of the things that made headlines:

• Canada’s first ‘presumptive positive’ case of COVID – a Toronto man who recently travelled to Wuhan, China
• Stock market crash. The Dow Jones suffered its worst single-day point drop ever on March 9.
• Australian bushfires ravaged an area of 2,000 hectares
• Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit the Royal Family
• ‘Murder Hornets’ first spotted in the U.S., then parts of B.C.
• “And until we meet again…” – farewell Alex Trebek

Rick Vogel has graciously accepted the invitation to be one of the mentors for the 2018 interVivos Mentorship Program. Bringing together young professionals with Edmonton’s business and community leaders since 2006, interVivos sets the platform for developing relationships and fostering inspiration.

Rick has been very fortunate to have had several mentors who have helped him achieve success in both his professional and personal life. As said by Rick, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to pay it forward… I couldn’t be more excited!” 

The Fall 2018 Mentorship Program kick-off will be held on Wednesday, November 28th, bringing an outstanding pool of mentors (a complete list of mentors can be found here). Fifteen mentors will be introduced to 15 proteges, discussing their goals and expectations for the program in fifteen 5-minute conversations. Once paired, mentors and proteges will have an opportunity to continue to meet and cultivate their relationships over the six-month program.

Rick is looking forward to the event and meeting the proteges next week.

Grow with Google made a stop in Edmonton with one main objective – to help people and businesses grow. With the entrepreneurial spirit alive, Edmonton has been and will be experiencing transformative growth. With the executive search industry dramatically changing as well over the years, Rae Ann took full advantage of the opportunity, gaining valuable information and learning about things like search engine optimization, Google My Business listings, online marketing and how to use data to drive growth.

Google’s presence within Edmonton has also included DeepMind, Google’s artificial intelligence research company that opened its first international office in Edmonton last year.

Both Julie Barron and Christine DeWitt were invited to attend the Annual 1000 Women: A Million Possibilities Fundraising Luncheon. This was an opportunity to join a truly life-changing movement as part of NorQuest College’s third million dollar campaign to aid NorQuest students by removing barriers to education.

Since 2010, 1000 Women donors have raised over $2 million to support removing financial obstacles, enabling NorQuest College students to pursue education and achieve their goals.

A terrific opportunity to give back. Christine ended up winning the table centrepiece!
