THE ROLE
As Vice President, Finance and Administration, you will manage the finances for all Robertson/ Education Canada Group (ECG) operations. This major role in a complex, fast -growing and transformational work environment calls for a long-term vision and strategic initiative.
This role requires the ability to operate in a high growth environment with limited oversight while adhering to or exceeding strict deadlines. It also requires a person who possesses natural leadership skills, who excels in communication, people development and team collaboration.
THE CANDIDATE
Core Competencies
- Post-secondary education in a related field and a Canadian accounting designation (CPA).
- In-depth understanding of GAAP / ASPE.
- Broad IT strategy experience as IT champion
- 10+ years of senior level experience in finance and accounting in an organization of at least $35M.
Key Responsibilities
Leading in Times of Change – Top Line Growth and Management
- Using exceptional relationship building and communication skills, the Vice President will work with the Operations team and other stakeholders.
- You will lead, champion, embody, and support incorporating the brand – the School of New Work – into Robertson’s culture.
Building the Foundation and Development of Retention and Outcomes Strategy
- Robertson has been transforming and building a dynamic culture deeply rooted in core values, brand, vision, and purpose. You will play a pivotal role in making sure domestic student experience is positive through building a mechanism to gather regular feedback.
- The Vice President will lead the development and execution of a student retention and outcomes strategy and process to further enhance the team’s performance.
- You will play an active role in shifting the team dynamic, adapting to a digital-first approach in all the communications with students.
Understanding the National and Provincial Context
- Private colleges are regulated provincially and are subject to province-specific legislation.
- There is a high level of competition among private colleges in Canada.
- You will be attuned to evolving industry and government priorities and to inform the executive team of the identified needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting/Compliance
- Oversee the Accounting function.
- Oversee external audit process including compliance with regulatory matters and GAAP/ASPE.
- Establish, implement, and administer accounting policies, procedures, and protocol for operations as they interface with the information system.
- Oversee company’s tax concerns including managing external tax advisor(s) and having overall responsibility for annual/quarterly income taxes, annual tax provisions, sales and use tax, and all tax strategy/policies for the company.
- Responsible for all external reporting to lenders, banks, and equity holders including quarterly and annual detailed reporting packages.
Finance
- Oversee the processes for budgeting and financial forecasting with extensive use of data analytics.
- Analyze financial and economic information to identify trends and indicators that may impact business operations, planning, and investments.
Information Technology
- Lead IT Strategy and planning of investments to support the growth.
- Direct the company’s information technology, infrastructure investments and maintenance contracts.
People Management and Leadership
- Leadership based on core values and company DNA including DEI & Truth and Reconciliation.
- Create a workplace culture that fosters success and ongoing business and goal achievement.
- Create an atmosphere where the team is encouraged and motivated.
Team Performance Management
- Active and ongoing performance management with appropriate KPI measures including sales pipeline.
- Develop and implement student service techniques for the team to ensure retention and outcomes targets and goals are successfully met.
Fiscal Leadership
- Direct the budgeting and planning for the domestic division in accordance with the overall budget and planning direction set out for Robertson.
- Ensure that the budget is expended in keeping with Robertson’s general objectives towards which the budget was developed.
Internal Relationships
- Lead ongoing collaboration and integration with other departments and stakeholders, so the Canada learning trends are shared and incorporated throughout the operations (when required).
- Collaborate with the senior team to ensure daily functions of the college result in successful revenue that correlates with monthly budgets.
External Relationships
- Manage key partner channels, promoting products and services to recruit employment partners.
- Manage key customer relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities.
Team Performance Management
- Active and ongoing performance management with appropriate KPI measures including sales pipeline.
- Develop and implement student service techniques for the team to ensure retention and outcomes targets and goals are successfully met.
