We are working again with CRH again – this time for their Board of Directors. Capital Region Housing (“CRH”), the largest provider of social and affordable housing in the Edmonton area, is seeking a Director to join an established team that will contribute to the enhancement of strong, capable, leadership governance practices for the organization. They manage over 4,500 social housing rental units and over 600 affordable housing rental units and anticipate significant growth over the next two years.

CRH is growing. They recently opened a new 70-unit apartment building with a new 240-unit development underway. The development pipeline has approximately $500M worth of projects.

As a Board Director, your responsibilities will include:

  • Financial and enterprise risk management;
  • Organizational governance;
  • Communications and stakeholder relationships;
  • Compensation, evaluation and succession;
  • Endorsing a supportive relationship and collaborative culture between the Board, CEO, organization and stakeholders; and
  • Board Committee attendance.

The Board of Directors will meet as often as required to provide effective governance and oversight. Currently the Board meets the last Thursday of every month a minimum of six times per calendar year and there will be additional committee responsibilities. Director terms are two years in length with a maximum of eight years served. The successful candidate is expected to sit on the Audit and Finance Committee.

The successful candidate brings:

  • Innovative leadership with a strong financial background. Preference will be given to individuals with an accounting designation (CPA);
  • Adaptability and the ability to lead an analysis of risk against long-term organizational sustainability and development;
  • Financial literacy including significant senior leadership in the financial sector as CFO or in practice as a senior partner in an accounting firm;
  • Prior board governance experience (ICD course work is desirable);
  • Executive level experience in strategies that are designed to influence public policy, build and maintain a strong reputation and find common ground with stakeholders; and
  • Knowledge of and ability to advise on government relations, media communications, issue management, corporate and social responsibility, information dissemination and strategic communications.
